What To Expect
Your hygienist removes buildup above and below the gumline, polishes your enamel, and flags anything that needs attention. Dr. Merchant then completes a full exam, teeth, gums, jaw, bite, and an oral cancer screening. Digital X-rays are taken on a schedule based on your individual risk, not a blanket protocol.

Twice a year is the standard recommendation for most patients. Some are seen more often based on individual risk factors, which we’ll review together.
Does the visit include X-rays every time?
Not automatically. X-rays are scheduled on an individual basis, based on risk, not a blanket protocol.
Will the cleaning be uncomfortable?
Most patients find it straightforward. If sensitivity is a concern, let your hygienist know beforehand and we’ll adjust accordingly.
What happens if something is found during the exam?
You’ll receive a clear explanation of what was found, what it means, and what (if anything) needs to happen next.
